Metropolitan Lifestyles: Sociology of the City - SOC316
A large number of us live, work, shop, study, seek entertainment and leisure, and associate with each other, in metropolitan contexts. In this unit you will study both the classical sociological literature on the urban way of life, as well as more recent discussions of the post-modern or global metropolis. Throughout the unit we will explore the city of Sydney through field trips, lectures, discussions and readings, but will also place these local urban dynamics in a comparative framework by looking at other cities across the globe.
